US: Extant

Right I've been pausing it on every screen and pad that may show a year, they all show day and month only. Does anyone know what year this is supposed to be set in?

From an interview in "The Wrap"

Fisher: We've always kind of thought of it as 20 to 30 years out — in the classic term of the genre, the not-too-distant future. But we didn't put a specific date in because we wanted to give ourselves a bit of creative freedom and conjure up new things, but also look at where technology might evolve to at that point. But not tie ourselves up, so that people can hopefully just focus on the characters and the story, and not try to pull it apart.

2 x 2hr episodes...

Are they trying to wrap this up quickly?

Some were always meant to be double episodes but they are moving the whole show forward a week so the 2 hour finale doesn't air the same week as all the big shows come back for their new seasons.

I've been enjoying it all the way up until thursday's double episode and it all just went SPLAT!

Did they fire the writers and let the catering staff have a go? :(

Copying the older bond movie TBH.

I never liked her and she messed up her career for a long time with those 2 bad movies (Catwoman, but cannot remember the other).

Not sure if I could watch it but will keep an open mind but it seems to be getting a lot of stick so is her acting.

haha yup would still she does look great for a lass coming into 50s and passing for 30s but that is thanks to make up no doubt !

I think extant is a tad confusing kinda 2 plots with the main one with that weird thing in outer space and then the android child. Also yes her acting is strange in this show, am only watching it since scifi tv shows is rare but could easily pass on it.

I really hope this gets renewed. It's a bit of a weird dilemma for them as both the male and female leads (Halle and husband) are the weakest points of the show but overall it's it's compelling.

Indeed......

  • Not much tension in the build up to the last minute launch
  • Was blowing up the ship a good idea, even as a last resort? All of that shrapnel near Earth's orbit.....
  • Odin any one?
  • Yasamoto any one?
  • So Molly and Glass returned with no contamination problems?
  • The kid was totally ripping off Thriller!
  • Ethan ascending......hhhmmmm
  • Why do they have so many TV panels in their house?

I have enjoyed the series but it had some flaws.

With regard to the TV panels, I got the sense from the one in Odin's house that they use them as super flat OLED pictures stuck to the wall.

I was just browsing IMDb to see if Spielberg has his fingers in any other new shows and spotted this being listed as 26 episodes. Turns out it was renewed for season 2 at some point and nobody noticed. Starts on July 1st.

Only Halle Berry, the robot kid and Meryl Streep's daughter are listed as in 26 episodes, everyone else on 13. That could mean they're the only cast members returning for season 2 or perhaps IMDb just hasn't been updated properly.

Edit - turns out they decided to change things up with both the cast and story, those 3 probably are the only ones returning

Sad to hear that Extant has been cancelled. Shame really, I rather enjoyed it, but the second season took a different direction I felt which may have led to this. Season 2 should have been season 4 or something. Oh well...

Was nice watching Helle Berry :p
