On mates new pc these is a 500gb drive. Windows XP is now installed on a 127gb partition on the drive with sp3 and all updates. 337gb is recognised as unallocated space. I go to disk management and select the 337gb and choose extended partition, it has now changed to 'free space'

How do I make it join onto the 127gb primary partition without creating a new logical drive on the 337gb?

Usually it just extends onto the primary, but doesnt seem to want to

edit - doesnt matter , im formatting it now as logical then going to try and extend the primary 127 to it

You'll need to use the likes of Gparted or Partition Magic. Disk Management in XP doesn't allow you to extend partitions.
