I am looking at either the:

Western Digital Elements 500GB USB2.0 External Hard Drive (WDE1U5000U)

or

Western Digital MyBook Essential 500GB USB2.0 External Hard Drive (WDG1U5000E)

What is the difference apart from look?

Essential.

Don't get me wrong, the Elements is a good product as it has exactly the same drive inside but as far as features and looks go, you get what you pay for.

I was just curious, because there is only approximately £10 difference between the two...

The drive automatically turns itself off when it's either unplugged from the USB port or you turn the PC off.
