Hey all, just looking into getting an external hard drive, and wondering which would be the best to go for, I am currently looking at:

750GB Western Digital WDG1C7500E My Book Premium

Would this be a good buy?

I have not, but I can get this drive for £100, buying the internal version is still £90 so not sure it would be worth it... Will the My Book be ok to be switched on and off regularly?

Yes why not ?.

It turns on and off with your PC anyhow.

Mines has the round Meter/Button on front, I can turn it on/off manually.

Make sure you umount it properly or shutdown the pc, to get a clean umount.

I wouldnt just turn it off in the middle of a session

With USB or even ESATA (default is Optimise For Quick Removal) you can simply unplug it.

You do not need use the Safely Remove Hardware option.

I think you beter go read into how SATA+hot plugging works m8.

You obv dont unplug it while its Reading/Writing.

The My Book has No "Look Ahead" Support, probably as its External.

The mybook i googled is USB firewire though (can't link to competitor)

I dont use 1394 its more a Mac thing and your HDD appears as Network Device then.

Any USB or SATA storage device inc Flash works like the screen above.
