Just wondering..

I've got a cluster of external hdd's that I used to use with my PC, can I hotplug/swap them in my MBP? Shame about the lack of usb slots :(.

Er, just that really. Is there or isn't there compatability issues with usb hdds? And only 2 usb slots is problematic..

I meant I didn't really understand what you meant. Do you mean plugging it into a PC putting data on it, then plugging it into the Mac doing the same etc?

Oh I see, no I meant I have several external hdds in NTFS. PC is no longer in the frame, so will I need to format these as something else or can I use a converter program?

Ah I see, well OS X can only read NTFS and not write to it. If it is FAT32 then OS X can read/write it, but only files under 4GB.

To write/read properly from within OS X it will need to be HFS+. But that can't be accessed by Windows.

Stick the drives in usb caddies and then hook that up to a usb hub. Only real option in getting lots of them access to the MBP or you could get a USB card for the express slot or whatever it is called.

If you can back up one disk. You could then format one and swap the data, format the one just emptied etc... then you only have to be able to store the smallest amount left on 1 disc maybe ?
