I've got a Lacie 500Gb external hard drive that I've since christmas I think, got loads of stuff on there (about 300Gb) and never had any problems with it at all for about 2 or 3 months, then it just used to like stick when watchin somethin. Now it never boots, you turn it on and then you can hear it just clickin tryin to start up. Normally it'll do that for around 10 minutes or so then it'll start up, you can hear it happen. Now it wont even do that though, this is when it isnt connected as well by the way, just power cable. Left it on last night for about an hour and there was nothin happenin, just clickin round.

Cant see anyway of gettin the cover off or anythin like that, does anyone know what to do with this? Anythin you can tell me will be well appreciated.

Thanks.

theres no stickers on it, its all smooth, its the one that says its designed by F.A. Porsche, dunno if that means its Porsche or soem guy with the same name but its all like smooth and aluminium or somethin, its got like rubber things on the bottom where I thoguht the screws would be but theres nothin under there I checked.

slipt a knife along the edge of it and the cover popped off, plugged it all back in to see whats happenin and it stopped even clickin. pushed all the wires in a bit harder and it booted straight up fine, turned on and off again no problem.

Not gettin my hopes up that its fixed but glad its workin now. Cheers guys.

If the connections came a bit loose it may not have been getting enough power to spin up fully, that would be the clicking as it keeps trying to do so. I swear I read that it was making grinding sounds, not clicking. :o

buy an icybox for it instead

i've seen a dodgy drive like that before (one of the power cables would only work half the time)
