So this free HD i picked up at lidl's isnt working

i found out its got a USB and ethernet connector.

I only got the HD so no manual or drivers with this.. its a targa DataBox NDAS 400 drive.

I have a spare usb cable that ive used before, plugged it in.. nothing happened, did the same with the ethernet cable, nothing happened.

The power is on but nothing is happening when i plug in usb or ethernet, anyone know why? ive tried looking for drivers but no luck.

I managed to get it opened up, its just a regular samsung 400gb hard drive in there

No idea why it wouldnt work through usb, maybe the drive is ok or theres a prob with the electronics on the little board inside the external casing.

on the other hand maybe it was the universal power adapter just not giving enough juice (though id still think it should recognise it!). I'll prob put it inside my pc through IDE later to make sure the drive is working, id rather have it in an external casing though.

My freindly neighbourhood search engine suggest you should have driver CD with the product.

NDAS devices usually need a special appliucation to access the drive over the network, unlike NAS which appear as a netwrok resource if the are running something such as Samba.

it has USB 2.0 and Ethernet

anyway, i just plugged it into IDE inside my tower and nothing happens when i turn it on, it freezes up on boot.. then it says detecting IDE drives and thats it, wont go any further.

I think this drive is screwed, i touched the top of it when the computer was on and couldnt feel anything. I dont think power is getting to it for some reason but no idea why? the drive looks fine from the outside, actually it looks new.

Anyone have any ideas what to do or isnt it worth trying to fix this?

with it plugged in internally on IDE, is thers a jumper switch on the drive, this must be set to slave(secndary) rather than primary, if this is the case, your computer might be confused and try to boot from the empty drive.

it was set to master on the jumper i havent tried any other, i also tried just the drive plugged in on its own and pulled the power from my raptor drive.

Surely if its going to work, it would have worked on its own?

i cant even get into the bios.
