External enclosure for 500GB disk?

Hi,

I've got a 500GB Samsung IDE disk which I would like to use in an external enclosure, preferably using firewire but USB2 will do I suppose.

I had quite a few problems getting the drive recognised by my bios and in the end I had to use Samsung's disk installation software to initialise / format the disk before it would be recognised as anything above 128GB so I'm concerned that I could have similar problems with external device too.

Has anyone any experience of this or any suggestions as to compatible enclosures?

What are your system specs and are u using xp sp1 or sp2 ?

Yes it's XPSP2 and my specs are along the lines of

P4 3.4C
Asus P4P800X
2GB Corsair VS RAM

Take a look at the IcyBox range here I picked one up this morning and it's great value for money.
