Hi All

I have just switched over to mac and my old PC is now obsolete.

It has 2 500gb SATA 2 drives in there which are going spare - I plan to sell the rest of the PC on ebay.

I want to get a RAID enabled external enclosure to store them in and hook them up to my mac. I intend to mirror the drives and use them as a backup drive.

Ideally I would prefer to connect with Firewire 800 over USB2 - also a network port would be nice, but is not essential.

Can anyone reccomend any enclosures that fit the bill? I have been looking at the netgear ReadyNas+ but they are very very expensive. Nearly 500 quid for just the enclosure

Any feedback is appreciated

Thanks
Aaron

I'd be interested in the answer to this too. OcUK sell a D-Link enclosure which almost fits the bill but is only NAS - no Firewire or USB connection unfortunately. :(

I had been looking at that one, and the synology unit, but the speeds are less than amazing over the network, even with gigabit. And seem the device is mostly going to be used by me, I decided that was no good.

Really need firewire

Grr just looked at the ready nas faq and even though it has USB ports, you can not connect to a client machine with them, they are for printers are hard drives only
