External Graphics Card

Im still suprised there are none of these on the market. How hard really could it be to extend the PCI 4x/8x/16x slot by connecting a cable to it, and then connecting the other end to a plug in bay for the graphic card.
Yes there would be some performance loss due to the increased latency, but even so It would be a huge boost over some low end integrated/64/128Mb notebook graphic card.

Precisely, however, there still seems to no market here at the moment. I reckon if someone could fill this gap with a range of external gpu's, then it could be quite profitable.
I mean, they may external hard drives, dvd drives etc, so why not gpu?! I mean it doesnt have to be a full media station like Asus came up with, but a plain and simple external card!
I know a fair few people who would be interested in the idea!

USB 2.0 Speed: 480 Mbit/s (60 MB/s)
PCI-e 2.0 16x Speed: 8 GB/s (500MB/s per lane)
ExpressCard slot Speed: 2.5 Gbit/s (320MB/s)

So even a 1x PCI-e slot is about 8 times faster than USB 2.0 and a little faster than ExpressCard.
Yeah but still pretty useless when it comes to video

I swear there was something I saw that was express card and usb together (for nearly 3 GB/s). But that was like a year ago...
EDIT: Yeah it was the XG Station, best model had a 8600GT. But they withdrawed it from sales in min-2009 :|
