Firstly that caddy you've linked to is for laptop SATA drives. There are equivalents available for 3.5" SATA drives but they all connect to normal SATA data and power ports so if the data port is broken you may have problems. Something like the IcyDock one that OCUK do might work better than the IcyBox ones since it uses a backplane connection rather than cables so might give a better connection to a broken port but it's in no way guaranteed.
 
Cheers for that, was hoping there was one with a backplate as opposed to cables, this is the one you were describing:

A bit of an expense for something that isnt guaranteed to work with my dodgy connection, but even if it doesnt i can pick up another HD drive as they are so cheap atm and use that.
