external hard drive advice please

need a new external hard drive as the one i had fail and i lost all my data and still not got it back it had all my most important pics and vids of family and friend and of some who are not with us anymore for this reason i dont want to take a chance of just getting any hard drive and it failing again can you guys please advise me of which one to buy i need around 1tb drive

the most important bits i have will be getting put on blu-ray disk which i think is prob safer please correct me if am wrong?

It is unfortunate that you've had a drive that's failed. It can happen at anytime as with any bit of hardware.

You'll be doing right by backing up to disk also. For important files like pictures and the like, it's always best to have them in more than one place.

As to a new external drive, you can't really go wrong. I have a Western Digital 500Gb drive as a backup, havn't been able to fault it so far! Without looking, not sure if they do a 1Tb version of the portable drive.
