External Hard Drive case problem?

I bought a nice IDE drive from OCUK and an external case from the bay. It's a Travel Star usb 2.0 case. I put it together and off it went, saved data onto it no problem. I took it apart to test a mates hard drive (was worried it had failed - it had) and when i took it back home and put my hard drive in, my PC wouldn't see it. The power light lights up (green) but the 4 wires coming from the molex aren't all connected (only 3 of the 4 were connected to begin with, then only 1 was when i got home). I figured that was the problem, so i tried to resolder 2 of them to how it was (or how i remembered it to be). It still doesn't recognise it. The power lead and circuit by the power socket appear to get pretty damn hot very quickly. I'm guessing i've soldered it incorrectly? Is it worth buying a new case and scrapping this one (It was only £10) or is there potential to fix it?

If the molex cables were coming loose I'd be worried about the state of the drive. I've killed a couple of HDDs before by not properly connecting the molex of a splitter cable.

Have you tried fitting the drive internally in your PC and seeing if it works there?
