external hard drive help needed

hi, im stripping down my old computer and i want to put my old sata hard drive in one of those cases you get on ebay and plug it into my laptop via usb, just wondering has anyone done this before? and are they any good? or should i just get an external hard drive? also my old hard drive has partisions in it, how do i go about getting rid of them so i've got a big hard drive to plug into my laptop

Get an ICT-BOX , I have one here with a ATA drive in it and it works great from USB2.0 or Firewire.
