External hard drive - recovering data

Hi all. My girlfriend has an external hard drive (a Samsung M3, 1TB) which is making a beeping noise when plugged in. I've had a look on Google, and it sounds like it's a stuck drive head (it looks like it's the exact problem shown at https://www.datarecovery.co.uk/late.../recovering-a-beeping-samsung-m3-portable-1tb). Alternatively, it's an issue with the USB connection - when it's wiggled, the light on the drive goes on and off and it disconnects and reconnects.

Does anyone have any idea how easy this would be to fix? Or am I best off sending her to a data recovery company? She does a lot of photography, and it's got everything on there from the last 5 years or so so I'm a bit wary about trying something myself and making it worse!

Best bet is to pull it out of the enclosure and directly connect the sata and power to a PC and see if works.

That's what I'd usually do, but from the looks of a couple of teardowns the USB socket is soldered directly onto the drive
