my girlfriend rings me this morning telling me that her external hard drive is broken. not the best way to be woken up i can assure you. as a result. it is now my problem, and i have to fix it. eurgh.

i havent had time to take a look at it yet, but she says that the USB connector on the back of the hard drive has broken off and is rattling about inside. therefore she cannot get access to the files on it.

has anyone else had a similar problem? its a seagate 9sf2a2-500. i should be able to back the files up by taking the hard drive out, but will this void the warranty??

cheers

yes it will probably void the warranty. but you could check the seagate manual to be sure. Either way, the only way you'll be able to back up the files is by taking the hard drive out so you'll have to do it eventually

i can see it voiding the warranty as its not as sturdy as the online guides would have you believe haha! but yeah, it seems it was the only way to back up the files... a new case might be in order though i think
