HI

I NEED TO BUY AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, PREFERABLY 250GB - 320GB. ANYONE GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I QUITE LIKE THE IDEA OF THE WESTERN DIGITAL MEDIA CENTRE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, CAN ANYONE SHED ANY LIGHT ON IT?

THANKS :)

Why don't you grab a new Seagate 7200.10 320Gb disk from overclockers at only £59.95 ex VAT this week only, together with a suitable enclosure, such as perhaps the Icy Box External Enclosure IB-360AStUS Firewire + USB Combo? The total would come to about £115 inclusive of VAT and delivery...

Update: Well I see you can actually get the Western Digital drive you mention for about the same price... I guess it's up to you then :) I like having seperate drives and enclosures as I can then put other drives in them etc if I want, and can then spec exactly what disk I use as well, however if you want a nicely integrated boxed product then that WD drive seems pretty nice. The fact that it has an 8 in 1 card reader and USB hub as well is a bonus. I'd say go for it.

i'm with bytejuggler, i prefer external hd enclosure's because i have plenty of hd's already (you can always buy a new hd as well if you need to ) and i like being able to access them without needed to open up the pc. It's a lot more versatile.

one thing i will mention is that, firewire is superior to usb2. Even if the thoeretical bandwidth of usb2 is better, from experience firewire is more stable and fast for me.
