Hi there.

I'm looking into getting a 1TB external HDD
Its been a while since I've bought external so I was looking for advice.
Would it be cheaper to buy and external drive. Or to buy and internal drive and put it in an enclosure?

Please could you recommend me one external drivers, or an enclosure. thank you.

the external must have eSATA for connection to my
Asus M3A32-MVP
I assume the eSATA is 300 and not just 150.

Cheers

Having bought both, and using both, I would not buy a complete drive+enclosure again I think. Some enclosures (like the WD MyBook) make it difficult to remove/replace the drive should it be necessary. Plus, by using your own drive you can select one that suits your needs and you know exactly what it is. e.g., a WD Green 1TB would be a good choice for an external enclosure - low power, quiet, plenty of speed for external use. Your choice for enclosures might include IcyBox390, or some other offering eSATA in addition to USB2. Best to get one that will do at least USB2.0 and eSATA [I can't guarantee eSATA will work, it proves difficult on many systems - but, if you can get it to work then great, you'll get 3x the speed of USB2]. The eSATA interface speed will be the same as offered by your motherboard... but it's meaningless as you won't get anywhere near 1.5Gb/sec anyway.
