I'm got a fair amount of music & other data on my Freecom External drive. It's plugged in via USB2 so should be more than capable of transfering to my main HD.

It'll manage to copy around 300mb data for example and then freeze. Nothing I can do apart from hit the reset button.

Has any one come across this problem with their external drive? If so could you please help me?

Is the computer doing anything else in the background?
Are there any other USB devices plugged into the same hub?
Is the actual cable okay, no breaks or iffy wires?
Have you checked the health of the HDD in the enclosure?
Is there anything else accessing the external HDD at the same time?
Have you tried the external HDD on another system?

I had this when my system was overclocked. If your running overclocked it may be worthwhile setting it back to stock and see if still happens. I did find a cure for this but for the life of me i cant remember what it was

OK thanks guys. I've tried everything I can except on another system as i don't have one to try it on.

I'll have to keep plugging away 250 megs at a time. Letting it relax for a few mins then transfer some more data.

It's gonna take a while as theres another 100gig to go

Cheers any way
