External HD Problem ?

Trying to transfer my files to my external HD and i am getting this message below

" The disk is write-protected or use another disk "

How do i remove the write protection ?

could try diskpart
open cmd as admin and enter diskpart
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0 (replace 0 with correct disk number)
attributes disk clear readonly

In addition to the above, check that there's enough space on the disk.

Also check disk format. If it's fat32 and your trying to copy a file larger than 4gig it can error out

What external HD is it? Does the problem only happen on one machine?
Could be as simple as a physical switch on the drive.
