External HD

My gf's brother bought a External HD and apparently it has wiped his ITunes and some other files , this is all the info i've been given... anyone have a solution?

Going to need more information than that i'm afraid, how exactly did it 'wipe' Itunes? What did he do that caused it to be wiped? Has the harddrive failed or does it still work fine?
