Hey guys,

I'm looking for a reliable, smart and large capacity external harddrive suitable for my MacBook Pro laptop.

I will be using it on the go so it needs to be portable. I'm looking for a capacity of 100+Gb

What would you recommend?

Thankies
:)

I'm guessing that you'll be wanting something that's USB/Firewire powered then which is pointing towards a 2.5" disk and caddy combo. There was talk of a Firewire powered 3.5" caddy in another thread a week or so ago but it seems that it has been discontinued.

There are plenty of prebuilt external drives from the likes of Seagate or Western Digital but the usual advice is to but the drive and caddy separately and then you can pick the drive and caddy which suit you best. Unfortuantely the range of 2.5" caddies available is smaller than for 3.5" disks so you might find that the prebuilt ones are as good.

I bought a WD 250GB mybook today from ocuk for my Xbox360, its not bad for the cash, not too big but its very plasticy. Its quiet which is a bonus.

For under £70 its good, but if you want something with high build quality i would look elsewhere.

I bought it because it was cheap, and it looks like my black 360.

well if usb2 is fine then i would recomend the western digital passport drives they are designed to be moved about ie with a laptop. theres a black 120gb version on this site for £88. the my book drivers as mentioned earlier are very good but they designed to be in permant position due to size. rather then carried around with you. there is a 160gb version but that is out of stock at the mo on here. they are smart black looking aswell. with a blue light.

I had a WD external drive for a long time, the unit itself was grey and cheap plastic, bit of an eye sore really.

That aside, it did everything I needed it to do
