external hdd not detected

Hey guys, for some reason my external hdd is now not being detected by vista. Its a seagate Barracuda 7200 320 gig in an icy box enclosure.
It seems to be spinning up but windows wont detect it. Its not that old and has been very reliable. Is there an issue that might be resolved or is my hdd dead?

does it show in disk management?

try another cable.
try it without the enclosure.

eSATA or USB?

if its usb try another usb port and then try delting the usb controllers in device manager and rebooting
