got a weird problem here, everytime i plug in my external hdd after about 5 mins the internet crashes and resets the router which after i cant do any browsing unless i unplug hdd!!!
if i plug to my friends pc it slows down the internet and after while we have to restart the router.
what would be the likelyhood of this problem?
could it be a hidden virus or something on the hdd?
ive done full scan wand found nothing.
hdd is is WD320gb inside mad'zd mobile disk casing.

this probably doesnt apply to you but thought i'd post anyway....

i had a problem where when double clicking on my hard drives in My Computer made them 'autorun' instead of opening....and i fixed it by downloading 'Flash Disinfector' and i plugged in my USB flash drive as well...and i dont know what exactly it did...but there was something dodgy on either my HD's or flash drive...anyway it fixed it...so might be worth a try!

Then leave the thing uplugged then, don't you realise thousands of people are trying to use the internet at all times of the day ?

because leaving it unplugged really helps when transfering files to it.
oh and i never realised that so many people would try to use the internet at all times , i thought it was just us select few and the rest go on together.

cheers A2Z i will see if this works, unfortunately the main pc would be on friends pc who owns hdd,

I'd definitely check if anything is autorunning when you insert the HDD. If it is a virus or anything dodgy, that would be the most likely avenue for it to run.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not  I'm sure his dodgy drive doesn't slow down the internet for anyone other than himself and anyone on his router!
