External hdd transfer speeds

Im currently copying about 30gb of data to an external hdd and am getting about 8-9 MB/sec transfer speed. It's a USB 2.0 drive with "TurboUSB" Does that sound about right? Is it worth upgrading to a USB 3.0?

The transfer rate will depend on the size of the files being copied. A single 1Gb file will copy far faster than 1000 1Mb files.

USB2 will top out at about 30MB/s, the speed you're seeing is pretty normal for a mixed load of smaller files.
