I'm going to buy an external USB harddrive to store movies, music etc on.

Western Digital Elements 2 TB External Desktop Hard Drive is the one I'm thinking about atm. It's USB 2, but I don't think that's a massive deal as the read/write speed of a spinner would be slower than USB 2 anyways if I remember correctly?
 
Is this goin to be a portable one or just for desktop use? why are you going external instead of internal?
 
I was going External as the price was the same as an Internal and the added benefit of being able to bring photos and vidoes with me was good...

£85 for 2 TB seems to be pretty good these days.

30mb/s seems pretty bad....even 80mb/s is pretty horrid..

The portable drives are powered by usb the external desktop drives need an ac adapter to power them. I prefer the portable drives as it's more convenient, my bro frequently "borrows" my portable drive to plug into his HDTV to watch my movies ive backed up.

If your not bothered about the portability (that is a word right?) then you can by all means opt for the desktop external. £85 isn't sad at all for a 2TB external desktop HDD, my mate very recently bought one from a high street store for £100.
 
In my experience external desktop drives aren't exactly portable, however that WD 2TB doesn't look 2 big. I have the 1TB version and it's only a bit bigger than my iPhone. definitely pocket sized
