I'm about to build my storage server (parts have arrived today YAY!) but theres one bit I haven't got yet so I wonder if you guys (and girls) can help me.

Because the box is going to run completly headless, I wanted to add a LCD display to it so I can see information like how much space if left on it. Because I'm going to be building as small of a case as possible I was hoping to integrate it into the front of the case, but I didn't want to just carve a 5.25" hole in it to stick a gerenric fan controller/lcd combo thing in it.

Does anyone know of any LCD screens, which are small and can display generic computer information ?

try one of these they can tell you anything you want.
temperatures, rss feeds, emails, cpu speed voltages, hdd usage, memory usage, and more.

you should find a uk suplier - i did

So by that reasoning you cant link to anywhere on the Dell website or any other manufacturers?

That looks cool but as I said I don't really want to cut a massive hole in the case. I really just want the LCD display without the surrounds

Most smaller ones will come designed to be mounted on 5 1/2 bays, as thats were 99% of people will want to put them. Non-mounted ones are usually only bought by case making companies in industrial sized deals. The way I see it you probably have two options.

1) Get something bigger.

There are a number of mods on the case forum where people have added larger lcd screens to the front of their cases, a quick search should find them.

2) Do a bit of a transplant.

Whilst the displays come mounted on a 5 1/2 bracket, that doesnt mean they have to stay there. I have an iMon display, and although its probably not what you're after, it looks easy enough to unscrew from the housing should I ever feel like it. If you search for the Thermaltake front panel, you'll come accross instructions telling you how to remove it from its housing so it can be attached to the special window its designed to be attached to on the Mozart case. So it can be done!

PK!

what - its the manufacturers website not even in the uk

Actually foreign suppliers who don't supply the UK aren't competitors.

That said I wouldn't link to a google search in this scenario because:

a) It will list competitors

b) Why the hell would anyone need a link to a google search for the name of a company that you just posted?

Take a look on HERE might give you an idea of what you can do.
Then head on over to lcdstudio.com
someone will be able to point you to what you need ?

NORITAKE :)

matrix orbital used with lcdc and speedfan/motherboard monitor 5. Can show temps, hard drive capacity, network throughput etc.

I have one in my sugo and probably will get one for my server at some point and stick it into a external caddy type affair (no more space in the case unless I heavily mod it)

Plugins also available for things like itunes etc.
