Hi.
I have an External Maxtor One Touch drive - had it for about 3 years now. Been using it as a storage for large file dumps - luckily not important ones. The drive is connected to a mac and is formated HFS+.
I have been having problems trying to burn DVD image files to DVD - keeps saying that the disc is probably copy protected. At first I thought it was my Mac. So I connected it to my Vista box and tried burning the same thing and it failed. When I tried copying the file it gave an error saying it couldnt read the file. Its done this a few times - thought it was duff downloads.
I have rung a sector check on the drive, and within the first 30 seconds if found 5 bad blocks. Took ages to scan that area and it was only about 0.5% of the drive -so I am guessing the drive is knackered.
I have ordered a new Lacie 500 gig to replace it.
My question is - is the drive salvagable? I wouldnt use it myself but I could advertise it on the forum here for a cheap price as someone might want to try and restore it?
