Never bought one of these before, I need it on the network and I'll be recording all ingoing and outgoing phone calls from my small business. Not sure the capacity I need but 300gb sounds large enough. I need something thats reliable and easy to add to my netgear network.

any NAS would do in that case (just plain ethernet connections). plug into your router and all pcs on that network can access it afaik

We generally use Lacie for our customers as they store a lot of artwork, both PC and MAC, just format them using EXT3.

Not had a problem with one yet!

Build yourself a basic PC then use Naslite Here (free) floppy based NAS software or the more advanced Naslite+ which you can boot from a USB pendrive. Put a 300Gb drive in, then if you need more storage you can add another 3 drives (on the current version 1.x - possibly more including RAID on version 2) if you need more space.
If you get a problem with the PC hardware you just build another one pop in the hard drives and they're recognised, or use a programme like EXT2IFS to read the data from the disk on a Windows PC. There's also a UPS script (which needs to be run from a windows PC also connected to a UPS) to shut down the server safely.

I've been using a Western Digital NetCentre 320GB for a while now and I haven't had any issues. Really easy to install, lots of storage and it's been perfectly reliable so far.
