I am thinking of getting a 360 or even a 480 external radiator to mount under my desk. What would be the perfect partner for my Typhoon 1450s?

I am thinking that quick disconnects would be a good idea incase I choose to move the case. Anybody have any experience with using them?

The reason I am wanting to go external is in order to downsize my case.

Have an external 1080, check my build logs for pics.

I originally wanted to go 2 x 360 external, but the 1080 cost around £10 more than a single 360 so it was the logical choice :)

Check Stu @ MSD's build too, he uses the larger 1260 external rad.

Pgi947: That is huge. Worth a look. I see you can buy feet for it, possible but huge. Hmmmm spanner in the works.

inSilica: Hmmmm the XTX is it a full thickness radiator?

yes it is. The reason I got it TBH is the shroud clearing, as well as being available at OCUK, as well as trying to keep my rad + block from same manufacturer (not that it makes a difference), that way if problems crop up ... EK!!!

Total dimensions: 130 x 520 x 64mm
It's 10mm thicker then the Hardware Labs GTX/SR2 though perhaps this may just be down to the shroud.

There are some great rads just surfacing from Aquacomputer, i.e. AMS Airplex Modularity System 480mm Dual Circuit Quad / or Quad Circuit with integrated D5 motor and reservoir

P.S. I bought the XTX knowing the SR2 outperforms it from the limited reviews that were published at the time

Phobya make every possible accessory imaginable for the 1080 and 1260, feet, cages, grills, all sorts.

I must stress that costs do start to mount with accessories, iirc I was ~£140 for the rad, feet, 4x180mm fan grill, 4x180mm fans and a 4 way 3pin fan splitter. Though it is keeping my cpu and both gpu's under 40c while gaming, so totally worth it :)

Such is the nature of watercooling :D , it can become very expensive, very quickly so do your homework.

I've never been over 45 degrees and water temp max using phobya water sensor 32 max though it is winter so may climb :D in the summer if summer ever surfaces ... brrrrrrrrrrrrr

Looks out side at the hail stones  Don't hold out much hope for a summer. Yes about costs, I've probably rolled over the £400 mark on water cooling alone in the last 2 months.

Some nice temps though, I will move internal at some point, would be a shame not too in an 800D :)

Now I'm not sure what to do. I won't need the capacity of the 1080. But the upgrade itch in me says I won't be satisfied without it.

The 480 is the sensible option, smaller footprint. I could vertically mount it out of sight on the desk.

Help really appreciated guys.

Down to personal choice I would say, grab a tape measure, make sure you realise how big/small they both are. IMO the 480 would be the better bet, as looking at your build log you already have a 240 & 120 in there a 1080 on top of that would be slightly OTT :).

this would replace the 240 and 120 to aid the downsizing of my case

Oh I see :)

The 480 would still be enough I would say while leaving a smaller footprint on your gaming space :D

Or if like me you just love absolute over-kill then grab the 1080 with some Phobya 180mm G-Silents. Tbh I can shut all my system and rad fans down on not see stress temps above 50c  So if silence is of importance then the 1080 is worth it in that way, as you can go almost 100% passive.

The koolance QDC's often get mentioned, sure I saw a few sets creeping about the MM the other day too.

The QDC's I use were industrial grade hydraulic fittings, very heavy and expensive, I wouldn't recommend it unless you get them for free (as I did). :)
