Hello

I'm looking to back up all my music onto one storage device as opposed to onto DVD's like I use atm. I was thinking an external portable hard drive sounded good so id be able to take it out and about. Ive got 43GB (8000 tracks) worth of music atm but its expanding all the time.

Is an external portable Hd best for what I want? Are they quick for accessing and playing the music? Any recommendations?

Thanks

Iggy

The Western Digital passports are bus powered and decent drives, but why not get a HDD based portable player? That way you can transport your music and play it as well.

I thought that was specific enough? A portable music player with a hard drive (ones with HDD's rather than flash memory have more capacity). You can use most as a USB mass storage device so it's just the same as a regular USB HDD.

As mentioned above you could order something like an 80gb iPod classic. Not a huge amount more than than a portable of similiar size and it would act as a backup.

I myself would go for a NAS option for music backup as you say it expands regularly. So for example get a 500gb Buffalo LinkStation and configure it to backup your music/dowloads folders every week or so. Albeit this is not really
portable.
