Is there such a thing available as an external SATA to SATA drive caddie? I'd prefer to connect by SATA than USB 2 and all the ones I've seen so far can fit SATA drives inside them but connect with either firewire or USB 2. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

dont think thered be a point really, as u wudnt need a caddy, u would just plug the hdd straight in if uve got a sata cable runnin from your comp to outside.

Surely you'd still need a caddy to cool the drive and keep it clean? I have seen them in the US but can't find them here.

I think this is what you are talking aboutIcy Box External Enclosure

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Removable_Hard_Drive_Racks.html

IB-351ST-US-B Serial ATA to USB 2.0 - Black (HD-003-BT)
Aluminium housing with lattice mesh design.

- Hot Plug & Play
- Extremely quiet without exhaust fan
- Works in both vertical and horizontal positions
- Assembly without screwdrivers
- Supports SATA hard drives
- USB2.0 & SATA Combo connection to host computer (1m cables supplied)

although you could just put the drive in your pc, if it is being used for backup then you might as well use USB2 or firewire

I have a SATA version of the IcyBox.

It has a USB2 connection, but also a SATA one, as far as I can see. However, I have not tested that yet.
Ditto, I have exactly the same one. It has a pci bracket that extends from a sata cable on the motherboard, looks pretty neat, along with the option of being able to use usb2.0
