externel HDD for back up

After having my HDD go down on me today , I have installed a new HDD , but have decided rather than my usb flash drive for back up i want a externel HDD which will back up my main HDD is there a way that this can be done

Yeah, buy an external hard drive or put an internal one in an enclosure.

Beyond that, I don't see the problem?
