Hey,

It's time once again for every to come aboard the HOOOOOOOOOO TRAIN! and look at the thing I'm doing over here!

It's time for Extra Life 2017 which takes place on November 4th and runs all day and all night in aid of charity and raising money for sick children across the world. Yes all of the hospitals are based in the US and Canada but we can still do something to support them - money going to my chosen hospital (Sick Kids Canada) is put towards international endeavours to bring children to their hospital to give life saving treatment.

This year I'm going head to head with @Dedwoods42 (he doesn't visit here much) instead of playing co-op games which invariably brings us back to Pandora (Borderlands 2 if you don't know).

All I ask of you fine guys & girls is to just have a look at my donation page and consider a donation which you can find below. Any help would be appreciated - even just sharing the link!

Anyone who makes a donation will be entered into a raffle to pick a game of their choice from Steam up to a value of £30. I'll gather some other prizes to hand out in other ways over the next month.

Thanks for looking and I hope you'll consider donating :)

Much appreciated, thank you :)

Could do with some ideas from the people here for a scoring system for a head to head competition and more importantly some kind of penalty/forfeit for the loser!

Oops! Let this slide again! I've been unwell so not had much time to promote or prepare for this!

Even if you don't want to donate, consider sharing it with those who might. Thanks! :)

Done and done :)

Thank you, much appreciated! :)

I don't mean this to come across as unappreciative - raising money for a good cause by any means is of course a good thing - however the lack of responses seems to reflect my own view which is that why is playing games worthy of a donation? It's similar to people raising money to do a bungee jump or go skydiving, things a lot of people would absolutely love to do (often including the person doing it for charity).

I guess this falls on the entertainment rather than challenge side, in which case have you considered (for future years) doing something that's more towards either, like a speed run challenge of a classic game or trying to win online games with funny limitations etc? Perhaps matching part of the amount raised depending on how badly you do.

Again, don't mean to be negative and wish you absolutely all the best, and hopefully any discussion based on the above will help keep this thread on the first page anyway :).

I honestly ask myself the same questions you raised and you're constructive feedback is really appreciated!

The only real challenge to this is actually staying focused for the entire 24 hours (which is easier said than done!) so yes it does really fall under the entertainment side of things. I've certainly been looking for ways to make it more enticing to watch, participate and donate (yes in that order) and find myself struggling at the best of times.

I'm not enough of a streamer or prolific name to get early access to titles so speed runs and limitations are something we've considered. Speed runs sadly don't interest me as they largely rely on exploits which I find less than fun to play. Now funny limitations I could certainly get behind - my go to game (Borderlands 2 if you don't know) lends itself really well to this but we've played that and it's other titles just too much in recent years.

The best I've come up with and have put into action this year is the head-to-head challenge which I think I can work an extra element into now thinking about it and we'll see how it goes from there.

I do need some ideas on punishments for things like in game deaths, outright failures or of course falling asleep!

Thanks again for the feedback - it really does help! :)

Not long now! Spent the last few hours getting on screen counters setup so you can see how often I die during Mirror's Edge/Prince of Persia :D

Thinking either a 1 life attempt or some sort of self donation/death? Still trying to work it out tbh!

Oh I won't!

Gonna be spamming the hell outta that bad boy! Having had a quick play of both games to make sure they work properly I suddenly discovered that whilst I remember them fondly I can't play them for toffee anymore :p

Righto - going live at 10am (ish!) and you can catch us here:

https://www.twitch.tv/psymonkee
https://www.twitch.tv/dedwoods42

Or if you feel fancy M-M-M-M-M-Multitwitch!

http://www.multitwitch.tv/psymonkee/dedwoods42 - watch both of us at once! :D

You can sponsor me here: https://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=248746 :D

Oh and I have a death counter for both Mirror's Edge and Prince of Persia. Any predictions? Anyone brave enough to donate if I can keep it in single digits? :D

Far ahead of Dan who is struggling with the camera and controls - taking a quick break at 62% completion!

Does anyone want to join us for Wreckfest or Gang Beasts later? :)

Slipped my mind completely (must have been the lack of sleep!) but I did indeed promise those who donated a raffle chance at a game from Steam up to £30!

Only 3 participants from this thread that I can see (The Swede, Schnipplze, Russinating) so into RANDOM.ORG you go! :D

Today's winning number is 2!

@Schnippzle - step forward and be recognized! :D (I have you on twitter so I'll sort it out with you there!)

Additionally I raised $200, Dan made $172 giving us $372 total and leaving us just shy of the target we set of $400 - not too bad.

The head to head thing didn't really pan out very well so I'll go back to the drawing board and come up with something different for next year. That or Borderlands 3! :D
