Extra Tyres available to F1 teams

Looks like the FIA have realised that higher tyre wear may be an issue, so new rulings mean they can add extra sets if needs be.

Hmm... I'm not convinced that was the motivation behind it. Rather, it's there to give the Pirelli a better chance to test and develop tyres and, maybe, stop them being too biased towards particular teams.

Mind you, the teams won't mind the extra allocation one bit.

True, I did think that, as they have termed it as "tyres for evaluation purposes". With the lack of in season testing Pirelli can only develop at race weekends, and teams wont want to use their race allocation doing development for Pirelli.

It might put some more cars on track on Fridays as teams use test drivers and development allocation tyres to gather data.

Either way, its a good move in my eyes.

Pirelli will be able to realise much larger gains than bridgestone purely because their tyres are so far behind. Not only do they not last as long, but don't provide the any extra grip. They are made of fail.

To be fair they're only doing exactly what the FIA wanted them to do which was to mimic the scenario from Canada last year. Also the temperatures so far haven't been typical of a race weekend with it being Winter testing which Pirelli have been frustrated by.

As long as the result is entertaining racing I'm all for it. Glad the FIA have seen sense and have increased the allocation before the season starts.

Its fine, but if they are using a softer compound why aren't they offering significantly more grip?

I know the cars have lost some downforce themselves - but the Pirelli tyres don't seem to have offered any more speed.
