Extraction 2 | Netflix

I enjoyed this, watched the first one again on Thursday night so that I could be prepared. But for some reason all I could think of with the shooting scenes whilst doing hand to hand combat was - this is just copying John Wick with the Continental shoot out. :D Wearing all that armour and helments that the hand guns couldn't penetrate whilst flipping and rolling about. But it was still really good. None stop action. My eyes couldn't take it all in. Might have to re-watch it again at a later date.

Binged both back-to-back on my flight home yesterday. Had seen the first when it was released but couldn't remember much of it.

Second one didn't disappoint! Some great scenes. It's basically a different John Wick.

Couldn't remember much of the first one either so did likewise.

I think that says it all, the stories are a bit, well, loose and fluffy and not really the main reason to watch them.

I must say that the way the fight sequences are filmed though has kept me gripped in both films. A good way to switch off your brain for a couple of hours and just pump up that adrenaline.

Reaching for the hammer in the fight scene but not getting it I thought was funny, I read it as yes its Thor but no it's not Thor

Is it actually worth watching the first one again at all? Or will it just give me action fatigue for the second?

Other than the ending of the first movie, does anything else in it matter in the sequel?

I was pleased I gave the first a rewatch but i was knackered by the end of 2

Yeah the only important bit is the ending and you see that again at the start of the second anyway as it pretty much just carries on.

Yeah I think the success of the John Wick franchise has shown you don't necessarily need a good storyline, but something a bit loose and easy to follow. Then just fill it with chaotic fighting scenes. It's easy to watch and requires next to no concentration.

I have no idea what happened plot wise or was even paying attention to the story. I watched it while doing something else so no idea who the baddies were, why the family was in prison, and why they got arrested in the end lol

But when the action started i paid attention and those 3 major set pieces were great, the train section in particular amazing. I did laugh and saw them all standing at the end of that though without a scratch.

Different strokes for different folks, but I could never watch anything like this.

Also - Spoilery :(

Pretty decent action. Better than the first. Good set pieces. Forgettable story and characters. Annoying kid. 6/10.

Some of the camera work was very cool/clever...would love to know how they do some of it.

Preferred the 1st film to be honest. This was just louder with bigger set pieces/budget. Story was worse than the 1st one, maybe due to the unique setting of the 1st. This just felt like a mission impossible film in comparison and stretched reality a bit too much.

Still a solid 7/10 maybe the 1st was a 7.5 or 8 in comparison.

I see Hemsworth has confirmed a third. I'm not surprised given that little speech Elba gave that started with "The myth of Mumbai" and then gave a list of events that just screamed multiple prequels...which I will totally watch.

I enjoyed the first one, but the second one was a disappointment. In 6 weeks, he went from only have the use of one arm and hardly being able to walk to being able to take on a prison courtyard of 50+ hardened in-mates. In places it reminded me of an on-rails FPS, especially the scene on the train. And frankly Thor would have struggled to get past the number of baddies that Tyler did. The gunmanship moved about, from being able to shoot a bullet up a gnats a*hole at 400 yard without touching the sides, to not being able to hit a barn door. The 2-min or so inclusion of Idras Elba seemed entirely pointless. I know it was meant as a cameo by a big name, but he's more of a contemporary of Hemsworth, it nots like Sean Connery appearing in Costners robin hood.

And it looks like they tee'd up a 3rd.

Liked the first a lot, fell asleep during the 2nd. So much time wasted in boring segments where nothing really happens from what I can remember before nodding off. The characters this time round had no redeeming qualities either which further amplified the boringness.

From the movie last night thread:

they took all the (mostly) grounded action of the first and just sort of said, nah, let's go Fast & Furious on this one. As absurd as a lot of the action was, I recognised and accepted it at the start and as such ended up enjoying it overall.

The emotional beats don't really land as they should due to how over the top it all was so the moments of quiet inbetween set pieces feel like a nuisance rather than expanding things.

One thing I have to give credit to is the hand to hand scenes with Nik, I thought they were better than Hemsworths. You see her struggle with guys a lot bigger than her and use other tools to her advantage, she's not just a strong hollywood woman because reasons, i'd happily watch a film around her escapades.

1 was better than 2 - seems they went full John Wick for the sequal.

What is it with films lately doing the - shoot 6 or 7 bullets into someone up close and they dont even flinch, because - bullet proof vest (or suit lapel !!)

Just gets tedious after a while.

Agreed

Just saw it tonight.

That sequence from the prison to the train was epic.

Compare that to the last action movie I watched (Fast X) and it's a complete other level.

The son did annoy me greatly though. How many times do you have to see your uncles men shooting at you and the rest of your family, to realise they don't have your best interests at heart?

First half was probably better than the last half, but it kept me engaged and I'll be looking forward to extraction 3 now.

Hopefully they don't go off the rails like John Wick did, with ridiculous lore and hiding behind bullet proof suit jackets...

Did someone say they didn't have a scratch on them at the end? What movie were you watching?

I remember all the older Hollywood tropes of people wearing bullet-proof vests still getting hit so hard that they "look" like they've died, until someone gets to their body, pops open their shirt to reveal a bullet-proof vest at which point they splutter to life and actually look hurt (sore ribs etc).

I prefer that older version to this modern "COD" style bullets just bounce off plot-armour that modern films use, especially when modern hard plate armour shatters bullets sending a spray of copper/lead shrapnel out in a fan which IRL shreds the fabric plate carrier, clothes etc and cuts arms/thighs/chin etc and still knocks people down (see various US police bodycam footage for that). Even though I don't like the John Wick "super suit" it does get that thing right as, being "soft armour", there's no shrapnel from bullet impacts.
