Extremely annoying steam problem...

I am not going home for 2 weeks and was going to batter some company of heroes at the weekends.

Unfortunately , steam doesn't want to play anything. It says because there is no login details on it, it won't go into offline mode until I go on the Internet and sort it out.

I can't get to the Internet until I go back home now - any ideas how to sort this? It worked fine last time I used it offline - don't know what has changed?

you need to be online in order to go offline, and in my experiences, you need to have opened the game in question whilst online previously for it to work offline too.

Unfortunately, you're goosed. Tried tethering to your phone to authenticate Steam?

Happened to me with Civ5 while on holiday. I had to find some wifi on mmy lappy and put it into offline mode.

suppose it is a better solution than most DRM but still annoying.

Should have just torrented it.

You are obviously online somehow since you are posting on the internet

Can you not tether your phone as suggested above to log in to steam ?

I haven't got the option on me phone - don't I need to pay monthly to do that on my iPhone? Guess I'll just have to go into Starbucks or something at the weekend - total ball ache ...

What sim card / tariff are you on? Is it an unlocked iPhone on PAYG?

If you are on PAYG, then you should be able to use it as a modem whenever you want, with the cost coming out of your credit, but simply changing your steam to offline is hardly going to use more than a few pennies.

My iphone was when they were unlimted and you couldn't tether but it was jailbroken so I had an app that made it into a wifi router.

Pretty sure now they have ditched the "unlimited" shiz you should be able to tether via usb or download a 3G>Wifi app ting or it might just be built into the OS now.

It's one reason I ditched Apple and went for Google Android tbh.

Get Barnacle WIFI Tether. That's if it's available for the Iphone.

I use it on my x10 + laptop when I am out and about.
