Arctic Freezer 7 Pro rev2 - Many Cracked Frames!

Really puzzled- my system was running perfect for 3 months, and all of a sudden I get a blue screen while gaming, and then another one. Just checked using core temp and Prime- my idle temps are still ok (about 30C), but my load temps jump to 90C within SECONDS - literaly 3 seconds- when running prime. Wow!

I was previously getting 70C after 15-20 minutes of Prime torture test! Have not changed a thing in my bios/config either:confused:

The cooler is Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2. I've set the BIOS to load "Optimised Default " settings, it rebooted with no OC but BIOS idle temps still showed 45C (So Idle temps are high as well now).

thats way too high for 4.3ghz,check your fans and or re apply some new thermal paste

I've checked the fans - all are spinning nicely. The white pins on the back on the mobo still like they were, so cooler was not dislodged or anything. The cooler is warm to the touch too- so it does make good contact with the CPU.

Can thermalpaste problem explain jumps to 90C in 3 seconds?

It's possible the paste you used has degraded, it's been known to happen before with graphics cards. Stock temps increase 10-20 degrees after running furmark or similar, back to normal after replacing with new paste.

It's in my post 5, sorry I've misquoted in my next post.:)

The cooler is Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2.

Pretty much zero dust in the case too...

Really weird, gonna apply new paste and pray that its not the CPU that died on me:(

To reset CMOS - do I just pull the battery out? I'm on Gygabyte Z68AP-D3 mobo.

try the above suggestions, although, what paste were you using to begin with? I've only ever used AS4 and IC Diamond and both have easily lasted more than 6 months, even under stupid heat and clocks :)

I have Prolimatech PK-1 on my cpu and MX-4 on my gpu's and has been on for around a year now with no issues, most paste should last well over a year really.

My thermal paste is Akasa 450 Silver based - I bought it about 2 years ago though.

So to reset CMOS- is it just am matter or removing and putting back in the battery, or do I need to wait a few minutes before putting it back in?

Right! The plastic frame on which the cooler sits has snapped along one of the screw holes. Do you think I could contact the supplier and ask for a replacement? I 've only bought the blasted thing 3 months ago, and judging by symptoms it snapped by itself yesterday (when my overheating woes began all of a sudden)

I had the same problem when I 1st built my system with a q6600 yes totally different cpu but i looked everywhere on a solution. ended up doing cmos reset and redoing my oc and that fixed it.

I would also check all fans are working and right direction(I made that mistake) and maybe re apply thermal paste.

My problem is the snapped cooler frame. I'm filling our RMA to Arctic Freezer right now and hope they will replace the frame. I'll be without PC for a week now:mad: Why couldnt they make the frame sturdier?! (rhetorical question )
