As far as I'm aware you can just download and install the CCC seperately and it will work perfectly fine with older drivers.

I'm doing that with the 6xxx drivers as they didn't come bundled with the new CCC.

Saying that just tried and I can't get it to work with hotfix drivers for my 6950. It says it is up to date already but it's still the old style.

Should be ok with your 5870 though as worked on my 4870x2.
