Extremely Poor AVI playback

Hello,

I am copying my mini-dv tapes to my HDD in the raw AVI format.

I would then like to use Win. movie maker to edit these about etc.

Playback of these AVI's is very poor under movie maker and also WMP11.

If I play in media player classic then they are fine and play lovely and smooth.

I don't have the greatest hardware, I thought good enough to play uncompressed AVI though!

A64 3800+, 2gb DDR, 128mb O/B VIA Graphics, 500gb HDD.

Any ideas, I have tried a few things. Just installed CCCP with the reset-all option checked but this didn't help.

I am thinking a codec problem or perhaps the o/b graphics is just so crap it cannot even handle avi?

Cheers,

Chris

Which way round are the fields (frames)? DV is normally lower field first; if you captured it as upper field first then WMP11 will show it jerky. MPC has a half decent de-interlacer so will smooth it out.

What software did you use to transfer the footage?

I used Windows Import Video. Comes as part if Vista.

The sound is very choppy too. It's like trying to play videos on a under-spec'd PC such as me trying to play Mp4 HD content.

Well my gfx is some crappy o/b VIA chrome9 thing. There are updated drivers on VIA website but their links are screwed and Vista 32-bit actually links to the 64bit download. I have tried a few address edits but nothing. Oh well.
