I recently reinstalled windows due to the last install been a mess with stuff all over the place and taking ages to do things.

Well this new install has created a new problem.

The PC boots up fine gets to the windows desktop - sits there for about 5 mins then starts loading the startup progs (ie msn, av etc).

Ive tried tracking it down to what might be causing the problem and so far:

I have used the Bootvis tool - it shows half of the start up progs loading then a massive 5 min gape till the rest load up

Disabled all start up progs - still the same - some start up 5 min gap till other things start to load up.

I checked the Event Viewer log, and the last thing to load before the 5 min delay (its always the same 4-5 min delay), the last thing to load is is the yukonwxp service - at first i thought it was a virus or someting, checking google it is the drivers for the onboard lan the my gigabyte mobo.

The only reason i can think that it is this casuing it is - yukonwxp is the last entry in the log before the 5 min delay then everything else has the XXX was sent a start control.

I have the latest drivers for the onboard LAN - and from that Event log with it been the last thing to load before the delay that is all i can think of that is causing it.

Anyone else know of anything else i can try, ive tried updating the bios for the board, disabling start up progs etc.

But still i have this 5 min delay before the drive kicks ina load everything (this is the first time this has happened after a few installs (new system build last year)

Do you need the on-board lan?

Couldn't you delete the drivers or remove the hardware in device manager and stop auto hardware install?

Also have you tried in safe mode? Is it any quicker?

Do you have a Marvell Yukon Ethernet Adapter? If you do, then disable in the bios, reboot and see if the problem is cleared. If it is then reinstall the drivers for the network card.

its deffo the lan/lan drivers causing it.

Disable onboard lan via the bios - all progs etc boot straightway.

Uninstal the drivers - all progs load as the should on startup

Tried reinstalling he latest drvers from the GB website and i end up at the same 5 min delay problem.

I've never had this prob before with past installs so cant understand why all of a sudden with this install the onboard lan/drivers are causing this problem.

I've just built a system that seems to have the same issues as you in XP.

Basically I enter Windows and it halts at the "Welcome" screen (not the Username/Password bit as I have Fast Switch Disabled), but the actual screen that states "Welcome" on it. Anyway it hangs on that for 2 mins before slowly bringing up my desktop. Another minute later, the programs start...

Am now disabling on-board LAN to see if it remedies itself.

Nah, that didn't do anything, nor did reverting back to default BIOS settings.

I'm assuming it's a Windows/Program issue.

Turns out it was the Windows Image Acquistion service hanging. Had to set it to manual, as well as a few other services that were making the DCOM raise a few problems in my Event Log.
