Hey guys, got my Samsung B2430H 24" yesterday, been using it since - it's a beautiful monitor and I love it to bits, except I'm getting an irritating sensation in my right-eye, it's a bit like I've spent 24 hours on my pc without sleep, obviously I haven't and I'm not tired at all, I've tried using glasses and also installed f.lux, no difference what so ever, after I've been away from the pc from sometime my eye-sight is fine and the sensation is gone, but as soon as I look at the Samsung B2430H 24" again, it's back. Any ideas?

Brightness: 59
Contrast: 75
Sharpness: 52
Coarse: 2200
Fine: 74

If anyone could help It would be hugely appreciated, I really want to keep this monitor but couldn't if I had to go on with this sensation

My old monitor is about an 19", LCD - not sure about refresh rates or any of that, I was using an old Dell default monitor that came as a bundle with my office computer.

Well, there are a number of things here which may be causing this, firstly you are going from a 19" to a 24", secondly the resolution will be much greater on the 24" than your old 19". The refresh rate could have been at 75Hz on the 19" and I am guessing the Samsung is at 60Hz.

Could also be something else and not the monitor, I do suggest you maybe as a precaution get your eye/s tested/checked out.

The obvious causes would be refresh rate, brightness, higher DPI so making text smaller by default and even poor ClearType setup.

I use a hardware calibrator and almost all monitors I have were way too bright by default. It's all too easy to go with an overly bright screen because it looks good initially.

If it is a problem with the brightness being too high (it is a bright screen) I don't recommend investing in a colorimeter just for that purpose on a relatively cheap monitor. Reduce the brightness to 40% (or set MagicBright to 'text' mode if it has one) and see if the problem still exists. If it does then it's likely a problem related to a higher resolution than you're used to rather than a brightness issue. Is the room you use the monitor in well illuminated by daylight or otherwise, too?

I've turned the brightness of the screen down and my bedroom lights on now, will give it a while and see if it continues

Got a link for that hardware calibrators?

I use an X-Rite Eye One Display 2, but I wasn't suggesting buying one for your issue, just that it shows how overly bright most monitors are by default.

It's not uncommon for the defaults to be twice the recommended levels, but that's probably to make them look good when on display in shops.

I only find this happens if you have not set a decent resolution or a silly refresh rate - or cheap monitors.

Larger monitor means your eye is doing more work to take it all in. Which is why I use a 22" 1680x panel for gaming. Also you might find the brightness is too much - most of mine I've turned it down to like 24 lol.
