Eye Test

The way the scale works for testing your eyesite is what is the minimum size font you can read at a distance of 10m. Since most opticians cannot afford to use a 10m room for eye tests, they use a 5m room and effectively double its length using a mirror.
6m ;)

its the same as the modified snellen charts we use at work that can be read from 3m - the characters are just half the size of the standard 6m snellen chart :)

not that many 6m rooms about ;)

But surely what you are suggesting wouldnt be the same as a chart at 6m.

What you are talking about is whether the persons eye has enough detail in the vision to see the characters at a certain height.

So say the characters are 2cm tall for a 6m distance away chart. They would be 1cm if the chart was to be used at 3m.

But shouldnt part of the test also depend on whether you can focus at that distance, because focusing will not be the same for 3m and 6m, no matter what the character size.

got me ^^

i was expecting something like that, but totally forgot to be ready when the test turned out to be quite realistic
