Have done a quick search but let me off if I've missed something on this. I remember in one of the 7970 speculation threads the mention of eyefinity 2.0 working with monitors of different resolutions. Is there any new info on this?

Basically I want to know will this be 79 series only? (I have a 6950 with 6970 shaders unlocked and would be tempted to add another if eyefinity will work accross different res monitors)

I have a 1920*1200 in the middle and 1280x1024 either side (while the non landscape monitors could be replaced they are nice quality and work really well for my deskspace and work)

I know pixel density (if that is the right term) may be an issue but would like to see how it looks and then CF to get better performance if it is OK

February 2012 its out - no more details than that though - but hopefully it will finally support PLP mode. I guess we perhaps start looking for 12.2a previews in a week or two.

A bit here - http://www.anandtech.com/show/5261/amd-radeon-hd-7970-review/7 and here - http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...ws/49646-amd-radeon-hd-7970-3gb-review-8.html amongst others.

The final step is going to be with Catalyst 12.2 in February, which will add support for custom resolutions and the ability to relocate the Windows task bar to an arbitrary screen, two features that users have been asking about for quite some time. Again, all of these improvements are driver side, but they are a major component of AMD’s marketing for Southern Islands.

The task bar on the middle screen will be nice too.

Looking to go PLP myself - a couple of 20-21" IPS panels in portrait either side of my 30" LG W3000H

This is something I'm really hoping will happen, if so I can put my 24" 1920x1080 in the middle with my 1680x1050 22" either side of it...

Not something I would be using myself, but if it is just driver side would the 5 and 6 series also be supporting it?

I think the custom resolutions is for a single resolution below the maximum, NOT for using monitors of different sizes.
With eyefinity at present, if you have 3 1920x1200 monitors, you have a single resolution of 5760x1200 (or higher with bezel comp). You *might* be able to reduce it to 5040x1050 (1680x3monitors) but below that, you are stuck with standard single monitor resolutions.
Custome resolutions will allow you to define resolutions below 5760x1200, but in the same aspect ration (so, 2880x600, for instance).
You'll still treat the whole display area as a single monitor.

At least, that's what I'm expecting.

I'm really looking forward to the ability to limit the taskbar to a single monitor.

there was definitely an image in one of the presentations showing monitors of different sizes but not 100% was legit

If /when it does ever appear (use of different size of monitor) Im sure AMD will find a way of limitiing it to 7900 cards only - as a significant selling point

I would love to get a couple of 7950's to utilize my 30" dell....and have some peripheral monitors either side lol, whenever I see £700 or so that is hahaha

I run three 1680x1050 screens off a 6950 and have been impressed with what it can handle. A central task bar would be a big help in general if available for older cards, and I'm living the whole 69x0 crossfire vs 79x0 question.

In BF 3 I tend to run the game in windowed mode and cut off the farthest 200 pixel widths left and right which helps with performance, but also allows the minimap to sit on the left screen, where it can be expanded so not to interfere too much with the gameplay in the centre. I think most eyefinity converts will already have multiple matching screens, so those with mixed res are likely to be rare.

Edit : I should add the 6950 is unlocked to a 6970.

I'm using the preview too, that centre taskbar is awesome.

From what I've seen of the variable resolution, it confirms my suspicions from earlier that it isn't going to be for monitors of different resolutions, but it is going to giving more options for running at below the maximum resolution. (With eyefinity you normally have no good options for this.) You'll still need matched monitors.
