Eyefinity fraps video

aye, i thought so! i mean people are complaining that they have extra FOV. but its pretty much mandatory for that resolution. people want them to have 3 monitors wide with only 1 monitor FOV? thats like taking a 1920x1200 picture and stretching it to 5760x1200. can you imagine how bad that would look! xD

Good point, it certainly gives an unfair advantage which is out of the financial reach of 95% of gamers.

I'm guessing that is because you're viewing the video on a normal monitor. Think about it, on a 3 screen eyefinity screen, the side monitors will be viewied from an angle and hence will have a sort of 'reverse warp'. Hence the warping you see in the video above will effectively cancel out and it should look normal ... in theory.

The side screens do warp and stretch the image which can be very distracting and from my limited experience playing on 3 screens = for SP great, for MP FPS it is a disadvantage cos there is too much to take in and everything moves so fast on left and right screens. So whilst u may get an advantage from time to time when u spot someone just out of the normal FOV, u lose that advantage because of the amount of info ur brain is processing and the side screens actually distracting u from what is going on on the centre screen!

Yes. To say it is an advantage or a disadvantage is based on how well you can glance over at the left and the right monitors. Normally, in a First Person Shooter, you use the mouse to look around, without giving it a second thought. Your eyes are stationary, but you get the feeling that your eyes are really moving all over by using the mouse. But in the 3 monitor setup, you would have to actually move your eyeballs to the other monitors, not use your mouse to look over, if you know what I mean.

well its all to do with resolution. if you can find a really wide HDTV with a massive resolution, same as the resolution as you would get with 3 screen eyefinity, then you will see exactly the same with 1 screen instead of 3 =]

Or perhaps you could use 3 HD projectors - no borders then.
Hell, get 2 cards and run 6 projectors - that would be interesting!

You think it will be as bad with 3 22inch monitors?
I run with 3x22" and i think its great, would like 24" screens though.

If you mean by the distortion/fish eye effect, this is unavoidable, its within any resolution, you just can obviously recognize(?) it more. It's down to game developers being lazy and not fixing this.

i wouldnt say you play worse, as you only mainly focus on the centre screen anyhow, you take the side screens in as it comes, mainly for immersion.
The only time i can see this being a massive advantage is when sniping as you have time to scan the screens.

Thats not the point widescreen still offers an advantage.
What if i had a 2560x1600 screen should i be banned then?

And finance should have nothing to do with it.

Whether you use 3 screens or a widescreen monitor should not be an issue IMO.

I wonder if a projector could be used at the 3 monitor resolution to create a super-big-seeing-to-the-side screen the size of a wall, lol.

Clear advantage over other players :(

In which case no one should use anything bigger than a 4:3 res or a gaming mouse, or a steering wheel etc. etc. etc.

Just making a statement, didn't say it should be banned or not used.

Besides, when i used to play games online punkbuster put a limit on the FOV in some games, could be used as a 'zoom' aim at low FOV.

Creed you ever play RTCW by any chance?

I'm sure all of you would change your mind if you actually experienced this.
It's not our fault your still gaming with 1 monitor/less resolutions.

Only the centre screen matters anyway.

I am really impressed with the op's video. I think this would be my dream setup for my gaming pc. All I need now is two more Dell 2209WA's!
