Hey, I'm looking for an eyefinity setup but I'm not willing to push for it if I'm gonna end up with crappy FPS.

So how much GFX power do I need to get a smooth (enough) 60+ FPS in MW2 with 3x24" monitors?

A single 5870 enough?
Tri 5770's?
Dual 5850's?
5970?

Trying to work out a budget and priority list for my next run of upgrades :)

Thanks

I would go with the dual HD5850, overclocked, they run about the same as HD5870 anyways. okay fair enough you can do the same with the the HD5870 but they seem fairly equal clock for clock, oddly

also if you have two, should have a winner there, only costing around £400 compared with £500 odd, not sure on the price of the HD5970 at this moment in time

I read somewhere that you cant use crossfire for eyefinity. This might not be true and might change with driver update or what not. Its worth looking into though. Myself have not tested it in anyway, and i dont see why it would not work.

Currently 5870's have worked in crossfire for a while whilst 5970's do not.

One thing you have to accept is, your running a massive amount of resolution, you will have to lower settings on some games to compensate.
I'm currently running at 3x22" (5040x1050), with a single 5870.

My MW2 FPS usually consists of say average 60 FPS occasional drops to 50-55. Max settings and 2xAA.

BF:BC2 Max settings but texture set to medium and no ambient occlussion and 1x filter and AA, hits say average 40fps, which is perfectly playable.

Any source game and DX9 game will generally be locked at 60FPS with v-sync on. Also i hope you realise most games do not work with eyefinity fully?
Not trying to put you off but you will find yourself doing a lot of .INI edits, even hex edits to get this working. Also AA has a massive impact on performance at this resolution.

Ideally i'd have a i7 920 @ 4ghz+ and 2x5870's.

unknownsock, have you used a fix to get the MW2 aspect ratio right or do you just put up with it?

reiyushin, Im running a single 5870 and have found so far that it handles everything nicely at 5840x1080 (except MW2 :p frame rates are good, around 91, but the aspect ratio is off). I mainly slap everything on high and just turn off AA

If you mean dopefish's fix then yes i do.
Is it even possible to play with such a streched image? :p

couldnt get it to work last night but got it going this morning :D

Hey Macca, i got the aspect ratio problem aswell.. can only change between auto, 4:3 6:9 and 6:10. None of them are working. if there is a fix can you post a link please?. I have of course changed the res to 5760*1080. theres not a lot of changes you can make in that game..
