Eyefinity HD 7950

Hi,

Yep you can do it on one & depending on what lvl of detail you feel is ok it will work, also get as much OC out of your card as you can as that will also help. Just remember you card will have a higher idel temp than on a single screen thats normal.

However the power needed to run BF3 on trip screen vs single at what i guess you would run at high/ultra settings on a single screen with that card, you will need about 2.5x / 3x that power to run high/ultra on trip & still get over 60fps, so yep crossfire is a must when it comes to that game & still you may need to turn a few things down, also crossfire does not always scale, but about 95% of the time is fine, but its another factor.

I really like eyefinity its great, but only in the right games, with BF3 it can be a bit much on MP as your taking in so much more information in, but on single player games its really nice or something a little slower MP

However having extended desktop is also great, plain and simple, i would hate only having one monitor now, so there is more + to having trip screens

You can also setup hotkeys to move between Extend & Eyefinity, i have them set to (alt F1 & F2) so its really easy to move once setup.

Thanks for that mate. Great response.

i was kinda hoping i could get away with it on one card because to x-fire i will need to replace the motherboard and its a fresh build. I should also be ordering a new PSU tomorrow and its now making me wonder whether to get a 700w rather than a 500w just in case i do decide i need to x-fire. On a plus note though i am planning to build another system for Christmas for my son so i could always use my motherboard and 500w PSU on his build.

I think you'll find some titles will run surprisingly well on one card, and in part due to the overclocking capability of the card, you may be able to push the odd setting higher than you would have expected (just don't expect much if you crank up the AA). As long as your happy with a smooth frame rate rather than getting too hung up on a specific number of fps, I think it'll serve quite well. Christmas is only three months away, so not long to wait for crossfire.

Im not too bothered about pushing for stupid FPS rates as long as it looks good and its smooth.

If something looks good and smooth at 40-50 FPS do you really get any advantage running any higher?

As a rule what's the minimum FPS we should be looking for to keep things nice and smooth?

And on a side note for when i do look at ordering 2 more monitors what connectors/adapters will i also need? keep in mind that these monitors only run at 120Hz when running on the DP ports.

And one last one
Will the above monitors be Ok to use in an eyefinity setup?

Cheers.

The minimum FPS that someone deems acceptable varies from person to person. Some people are happy with 35FPS, some want constant 60+FPS. It just depends on how sensitive you are to lower frame rates. The same applies to microstutter- some can see it and find it unplayable when it occurs, others can't even tell it is there at all. I personally like to have 50+ FPS in FPS games like BF3, I can tolerate 45+ for other games like GTA IV or Sleeping Dogs.
