Eyefinity problems

today i got the final adapter i needed to set up eyefinity with my 3 19" vga screens on my ati 5830
so the card has 3 ports and supports eyefinity. (dvi, hdmi, minidisplay)
all 3 of my monitors are 19" vga yet the 2 outsides have the cable builf into the monitor and the one in the middle has an outer vga port to connect a cable up to

so i got my xfx mini display to dvi adapter, a few dvi to vga adapters, a few vga cables and a hdmi to vga adapter,

so i wired my midle screen directly to the vga to hdmi cable and into the hdmi port
The left monitor went : vga/dvi adapter to xfx minidisplay to gpu
and the right monitor went vga/dvi to gpu

now that should work right?
my graphics card only send signal to the right monitor, and detects the left monitor yet give no display on it no matter how much a mess about in amd vission centre, and the centre monitor that goes through hdmi is not detected at all, it doesnt even register a cable in the monitor.

i dont understand my problem just that its only detected 2 displays not sending signal to one and not picking up anything from the hdmi

Oh dear....

The right monitor works because you're using a DVI to VGA adapter in a DVI-I connection which supplies an analog signal.

The middle monitor doesn't work because you can't convert HDMI to VGA with a simple cable as HDMI is digital output only.

The left monitor doesn't work because a miniDP to DVI adapter only provides a digital signal (even assuming you bought a powered adapter) so there's no analog output.

What you really need is a miniDP to VGA adapter, as the adapter will convert the signals to VGA. MiniDP to DVI only outputs digital signals.

A HDMI to VGA adapter is also very expensive, so you need buy another miniDP to VGA adapter as the other DVI port is only digital.

ahh, so, hmmm so even thouhg my xfx display port is active i cant use it on vga and i can only use my hdmi through dvi?

Because the adapter only converts DP signals to DVI. Not VGA. And the HDMI port is purely, well, digital. It's only the DVI-I port that can output analogue signals.

You would have to use EITHER a diaplay port to DVI, or a Displayport to VGA. Both active. You cannot convert to one, then the other. Its not that simple!

I do have an active VGA standard displayport adapter here. I will put it in the MM if you are interested.

The adapter may be active but only converts DP to DV-D so it's digital only, no analog output.

Which HD 5830 do you have?

The reference card has 2 dual link DVI-I connectors (which provide an analog output with an adapter), HDMI and DisplayPort.

Well that's troublesome, not very nice outputs on the card:

Another thing to be aware of - if you're planning to use eyefinity, I believe all monitors need to be connected to a single graphic card.

aye that sounds about right just went eye infinity on my cards and only one card would output to the monitors luckily enough my gfx cards have 2 x dvi outputs.

yeah i shall get a card with 2 dvi and another adapter crossfire it and run 2 of dvi and a dvi monitor of a minidisplay or hdmi or sumnk
but good news is i just earnt £180 and for a 15 year old that's a pretty big payday
happy new year

I have some 26" Iiyama monitors for sale that work lovely in EF!

"when i get money" and i still cant afford 3 26" monitors, maybe one but 3 wouldnt fit on my desk
my desk would just magae a 24" widescreen without it hanging of the edge
