Eyefinity - screen flicker on displayport connected monitor?

People should be aware these active display adapters can cause stuttering also.

I've got the official Sapphire Active Adaptor and all be it an expensive one it works well the my HD5870 series card.

I did actually try a none active (passive) as i read in some places that if your screen resolution is below 1920x1080 they would work, seen as I was using 1920x1080 it didn't so i had to buy the expensive active adapter.

Please download the atiflash tool that only can use under pure dos mode here -

http://www1.sapphiretech.com/global/lib_files/40.zip

Then check the SOP step1 to step7 to make a bootable USB stick that can help to boot into pure dos mode -

http://www1.sapphiretech.com/global/lib_files/103.zip

Please help to update this latest VBIOS here at first - http://www1.sapphiretech.com/global/lib_files/120.zip

After booting into pure dos mode , please type below command after prompt

atiflash –p 0 s3c00101.104 –f

BTW , flashing the VBIOS from fficial side will not void the warranty.
I have tow ATI HD5870. Is i the same atiflash code as one card? Or do i need do it one by one.

Good question, I have no idea about how it would work on 2 cards

maybe take one out and do one at a time would be the best option just to make 100% sure it was done correctly.

Not sure if you have seen my other thread but I am having problems with the Sapphire active dport adapter also. When running a 5970 or 5970 + 5870.

- Crossfire | Fullscreen | Dport attached = bsod
- Crossfire | Windowed | Dport attached = fine
- crossfire | fullscreen | no dport attached = fine

Still looking for a resolve for this :(

Any ideas as on how to resolve the following?

It is fine in windows and some games (crysis, mw2, stalker) in Eyefinity whereas in others it is not (dirt2, wolfenstein) - the screen that is attached to the DP adapter flickers between full screen & something that is about 10% less all round than full screen like it can't make its mind up what it should be! It's almost like it is flipping between 2 resolutions .. timing/refresh issue maybe???

This happens on stock settings and I have no flickering issues with a single monitor.

I have the exact same problem. All 3D games are unplayable when run in full screen mode. In windowed mode they work perfectly. I don't have a DP adapter, however I'm connecting my 5970 to an Apple Cinema display using the DP connector (mini DP to mini DP).

I created a thread on the official AMD forum (http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=128787&enterthread=y) and have created a ticket with Sapphire.

I'll let you know if I get anywhere...

Any info you get I would like to hear. I have also created a ticket with Sapphire.

I do have an update though on my cards.

I double checked with Sapphire that updating the firmware would not affect my warrenty and now I know its fine I have updated the firmware.

I have found that if I plug certain monitors in certain orders I get different results. I currently have my main monitor in the top dvi socket of my card and my 3rd monitor in my dp socket. I can now actually run apps in fullscreen on my main monitor in 1920x1200 without crashes. I do however notice artifacts initially when the app runs.

I am also doing tests with eyefinity at the moment and seem to have games running in eyefinity.

I am going to try get a full list of which specific configurations causes the crashes and hopefully get to the bottom of the problems

I have two graphics cards in my MacPro: an ATI 5970 and a nVidia GT 120. Just tried my nVidia GT 120 connected to the iMac and games work perfectly well in full screen mode at 2560x1440, albeit VERY slowly. So, that proves that the problem lies with the ATI card. Not sure how much further that's got me though!

Be careful, i just flashed my 5850, followed all instructions to the letter that i got back from Sapphire.
I have now put my old 4870 in as i have no picture on any of the 3 monitors! The bios flash has messed the 5850 up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im not happy :(
