Eyefinity vs. 3DVision - immersion in a game.

Doesn't the whole 120Hz mean that your PC has to render at a solid 120FPS constantly for the 3D to work?

That would mean that you'd be pushed to upgrade more often to make sure the latest games work in 3D so your games run at 120FPS.

I'm one for the Eyefinity, I would have loved to get a TH2G and a third screen, but the resolution restriction of TH2G was a massive offputting, I've tried softTH too, and while it works, the lack of dual GPU support also put me off.

Eyefinity appears to be the best of all current solutions rolled in to one.

No.
Just like you don't need solid 60fps for games to work on a 60Hz LCD.
120Hz divided by 2 angles alternated for each eye for the glasses so you will get 60hz full refresh & see a maximum of 60fps just like 60hz LCD monitors.

That's different though, any framerate will work on a 'normal' LCD regardless of its refreshrate, but you could get tearing if they're not synced.

It still works, but some people find it hard to look at.

Any frame rate will work on CRTs as well.

Each lens refreshes at 60hz.
Left lens Angle A 60hz, right lens Angle B 60hz = the monitor can only show one angle at a time so it switches from A-B 120hz combined which is not linked to input of fps at all like all other displays & yes you can get tearing without VSync.

So 120fps is too much as each lens only works at 60hz. so all you need is 60fps & the frame is refreshed twice, once in each lens but at a different angle.
So basically its interlaced like CRT 50hz refresh TV interlaced gives you a 24-25 fps movies before progressive scan came out.

Reading around, does anyone know if two people can use 3D vision at once? Like if 3D movies are as great as made out to be, can the experience be shared by buying more glasses?

Zomg all these lines?! It isnt that bad.
Get monitors with thin bezels, simple.

and there are a tonne out already.

even 1cm bazel would annoy me :p
why need multiple monitors if I am perfect on my 22", upgrade soon to 26" maybe tho ...or wait till nvidia launches 24"+ 120mhz

nVidia won't be launching any 24"+ monitors at 120Mhz any time soon. ;)

It's not nVidia you're waiting for, monitor refresh rates are entirely independant of nVidia.

120Hz will just be where mainstream monitors are going to move to next.

As for your concerns of bezel size, It sounds to me that you haven't actually experienced gaming across multiple monitors?

There's no use making claims that it would annoy you if you hadn't tried it out yet.

You never know, it may bother you less than you think.

To me, the bezel all but fades away when I get in to the game, of course I'd rather there be no bezel, but it's just the way it is at the moment, and I forget they're there and get in to the game.

+1

Having played across multi-monitors with a 2 inch gap between the screens (thanks to one being a CRT) I can say the gap doesn't really come into it with having the main interface on one screen and the "mini" map on the other. Given the choice of 1 screen or 2, I'l stick to 2!

I haven't tried multiple monitors for gaming or anything else but the thought of it doesn't appeal much. I imagine the bezels would kind of disappear after a while of gaming and with them only getting reduced in the future, then perhaps it would eventually be something that may be worth a try. I'm more than satisfied atm though with the kit I have, my current monitor is one of the best things I have ever bought for my PC setup.

I would personally go AMD, eyefinity has the capability of supporting a lot more monitors the release of the "Six" on the 5870's means 6 monitors per card with 4 cards means 24 screens.

Also i here AMD are working on there own 3d vision which will involve 2 screens on top of each other...this means no stevie wonder glasses.

Also i dont know if this has happened yet but i believe the nvidia glasses if made to work on ATI hardware will also work as from my understanding it creates the 3d images from the 3d refrence points found in every game, this is not something unique to nvidia, its a requirement in every game.

HTH

I'm going to keep away from this multi-screen business. It's not to my minimalistic tastes :P

I don't really think 3D would add a great deal more, either. Unless it can be done big. And well. I probably won't get it anyway.

MonoMonitor 2D vision yeaaaahhhhh

This is a real example of what eyefinity has to offer, looks superb!! but I'm on the fence, I want both!! .. or a PC monitor that displays 21:9 like this!!

Eyefinity for now!!

Yes both would be good:-)

However for me 3 monitors is what gives me more, but maybe it depends on the software as well. I'm only in to driving sims and never saw the point of 3 monitors giving a super wide view of the road ahead.

What I wanted was something close to surround vision, when iRacing implemented their auto calibrating 3 monitor setup that seemed worthwhile so I took the plunge with a Th2Go.

Within the game/sim you input your monitor size with and without bezel and the angle the sides are to the centre. You also input the distance your eyes are from the screen.

My monitors are 70 degrees to the centre and it calculated a 149 degree field of view.

Looking at the display from the side it looks all wrong, moving to the position where you're driving the view lines up perfectly and its very immersive.

The black bars don't bother you, people are making too big a deal about that.

But we can always want more so a Lucid Hydra motherboard, my shiny new 5870 and old GTX280 with a nice clocking i5 chip and 3d vision without needing glasses across three monitors would be nice wouldn't it!

Regards
Fred
